Hey hey hey you guys! Boy have I got an uber easy beanie pattern for you! One word: totally fun! Okay, that’s two words but I am really stoked about how much fun this pattern is!
The Hopeful Slouchy Beanie was created with the beginner knitter in mind. In fact it should have a second name, the Easy Slouchy Beanie. The pattern works up quickly and is an absolute joy to make. In a world filled with so much chaos, my hope and prayer is that as you knit this beanie, it’ll remind you to keep hope alive no matter what you’re facing.
So, without further ado, here’s the Hopeful Slouchy Beanie pattern for ya.

Intermediate beginner
GAUGE
15 sts and 22 rounds = 4″/10 cm in
stockinette stitches in the round using US 10/6 mm needles (wet block your swatch and let dry before measuring)

Child (Teenager/Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large)
Circumference to fit: 19–20″ (20–21″, 21–22″, 22–24″) / 48–51 (51–53, 53–56, 56–61) cm
Finished height: 7.5 (9, 10, 10.5)” / 19 (23, 25, 27) cm

Any Chunky weight yarn that meets gauge. Sample was made with King Cole NEW Magnum Chunky in Pink Haze

US 8/5 mm 16″ (40 cm) circular needles
US 10/6 mm 16″ (40 cm) circular needles
US 10/6 mm 12″ (30 cm) circular needles or DPNs
Notions: Stitch marker, darning/tapestry needle to weave in ends, pom pom if desired

- Although it is designed to be slouchy, you can easily knit the beanie to your desired length
- The brim of the beanie is designed to have a snug fit

BRIM
With size US 8/5 mm 16″ (40 cm) circular needles, CO 52 (56, 60, 64) sts.
Place stitch marker and join to knit in the round, being careful not to twist stitches
*K1, P1; rep from * around for 6 (8, 8, 8) rounds
Switch to US 10/6mm 16″ (40cm) needles and work increase round once
INCREASE ROUND
Child size: K1, (M1, k3) 6 times, (M1, k2) 7 times, (M1, k3) 6 times, M1, k1
Teenager/Adult Small: K1, (M1, k3) 8 times, (M1, k2) 3 times, (M1, k3) 8 times, M1, k1
Adult Medium: K1, (M1, k3) 19 times, M1, k2
Adult Large: K2, (M1, k3) 8 times, (M1, k4) 3 times, (M1, k3) 8 times, M1, k2
You will have 72 (76, 80, 84) sts
BODY
Knit one round
Round 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end
Round 2: *K2, p2; rep from * to end
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: Knit
Rep round 1–4 until you get to roughly 1″ before your desired height or until your work measures 6.5 (8, 10, 10.5)” / 16.5 (20, 23, 24) cm from CO edge.
DECREASE ROUNDS
Round 1: K2tog around [36 (38, 40, 42) sts]
Switch to US 10/6 mm 12″ (30 cm) circular needles or DPNs when you see fit
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: K2tog around [18 (19, 20, 21) sts]
Round 4: Knit
Round 5:
Child size and Adult Medium: K2tog around [9 (-, 10, -) sts]
Teenager/Adult Small and Adult Large: K1, *k2tog; rep from * until end [- (10, -, 11) sts]
Round 6: Knit
Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Using a darning/tapestry needle, pull it through the remaining sts. Pull tight and weave in all ends.
Add a pom pom of your desired size or rock that baby without one, it works either way.

I would like to make the Hopeful slouchy beanie with worsted weight yarn but not very good at knowing how to figure this out. Can I just change needle sizes or do I need to change the pattern instructions, also? Help with this pattern would be appreciated.
